365 Things to Do & Places to go in Charlotte – Village Tavern
Located in the Rotunda building in the heart of Charlotte (SouthPark), Village Tavern
Their mission: “To serve the best possible food, at affordable prices, using only the finest, freshest ingredients and to enrich the lives of each other, our guests, and our community. In other words to make a positive difference.”
What we love about Village Tavern – it’s not stuffy yet, not too casual either; the décor is quietly eloquent but, not too elegant either. Tables and booths surround the bar area with massive windows on all 3 seating sides of the restaurant – with great views. They also have a huge outdoor patio that is excellent on moderate days and is consistently ranked as one of best dining patios in Charlotte.
The ambience and the low noise level is something that we also love about the restaurant. Being a tavern & restaurant in one, with a massive bar area, we never expected the noise level to allow for private conversations but, we were pleasantly surprised.
Head Chef Mary Grace Viado boasts an extensive and impressive resumé with a multitude of honors as well as honing her skills in numerous 5-star restaurants in both NYC and CA. The steak au poivre (their signature dish), bacon-wrapped scallops, southern shrimp and grits, crab cakes and their specialty salads are big hits with the customers. Renowned for its scratch kitchen, the craft bar also draws quite a crowd. Village Tavern features an impressive wine list, offering more than 50 wines by the glass, craft cocktails that are to-die-for, as well as local craft beers.
Really, everything on their menu is excellent! There are many choices, so just about anyone will find something that they like. Prices are reasonable and their bar and wine menu are quite extensive. You can bring your own bottle of wine and their cork fee is minimal.
Over their 30 years in business, we’ve dined there for brunch, business lunches, dinners and private parties and have always had a wonderful experience. The wait staff are always personable and professionally on-point as well.
Parking is scarce in front of the restaurant but, there are plenty of adjacent lots in and around the Rotunda building in which to park. They could step up their handicapped accessible spots though – or police those using the few handicapped spots they do have.
