Historic Charlotte Neighborhoods – Inner City Vertical Bliss in Charlotte Uptown Fourth Ward!
Charlotte’s historic Uptown’s Fourth Ward is located in the northwest quadrant of the Center City area. Fourth Ward was resurrected in the mid-1800’s and was known as one of the more prosperous areas of town providing homes to the elite Charlotteans.
By the 1900’s Charlotte residents were relocated to the ‘suburbs’ such as Dilworth, Eastover and Myers Park. From the early 70‘s until the 90‘s, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of serious neglect and was certainly not an area of town preferred by the locals in which to reside.
Then, thanks to like-minded, progressive-thinking residents and local officials, the late 20th century brought to Fourth Ward, a complete and total restoration, which is now a thriving part of not only Uptown but, all of Charlotte. In fact, Charlotte’s Uptown (formerly Downtown Charlotte) is now known nationally as one of the most beautiful and vibrant center city areas in the country.
