Charlotte NC Suburbs | Union County | WAXHAW
The town of Waxhaw dates back to the 1700s, but it wasn’t until 1888 that the railroad, laying tracks to Atlanta, brought prosperity to the area. Waxhaw is locally known as “horse country” as farms and stables abound in the area. Waxhaw is located in Union County and is in the award-winning, Union County School district.
Those railroad tracks still run through the center of town along the green, grassy strip dividing two areas of dozens of fascinating shops including a clock shop and several antique stores. In the early 1960s, Waxhaw established itself as an antique and equestrian community. Favorite area dining spots in Waxhaw range from mom-and-pop restaurants to bistros to fine dining establishments.
One of the most popular area events is the annual Queens Cup Steeplechase at Brooklandwood farms. Cane Creek Park, a 1,050-acre park draws anglers from all around with its 350-acre bass trophy lake. Cane Creek also offers a public beach with swimming and walking trails.
Waxhaw homes include a variety of styles but, you will surely feel a distinct “horse country” aura about the area when you visit! Homes range from European and transitional styles with stone, brick and Tudor accents mixed with colonial and French country styles. And if you’re looking for land for sale in the Charlotte area, it’s far more plentiful in Waxhaw than areas closer to Uptown Charlotte.
