Charlotte NC Neighborhoods – Hip, Historic Fourth Ward Uptown
Charlotte NC’s Historic Fourth Ward – Hip and Walkable
Historic Fourth Ward is comprised of the the northwest quadrant of Charlotte’s Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers. The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900’s, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the ‘suburbs’ of Dilworth and Myers Park.
Many of the beautiful Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of neglect. The late 20th century brought restoration to Fourth Ward and is now a thriving part of Charlotte’s Uptown.
