Ballantyne, sprung from farmland in the early 1990’s, spans 2,000 acres across Mecklenburg County’s southern tip. Ballantyne was originally owned and later, developed by the Bissell/Harris family who also developed one of Charlotte’s most popular live/work communities, SouthPark, and continues to grow. The residential portion of Ballantyne was sold to Crescent Resources for residential development while the Bissell Companies developed the commercial side, including most of the hotels on the sprawling acreage.
The area includes the Ballantyne Country Club community (a gorgeous community with fine, luxury homes for the discriminating buyer), the five-star Ballantyne Golf Resort and Spa, an 18-hole golf course, a large corporate office park which is home to some of Charlotte’s Fortune 500 companies, high end restaurants and shops and surrounded by dozens of new subdivisions. Ballantyne’s town center hosts a YMCA, and the Ballantyne Village movie theater building is the centerpiece for the area.
Homes in Ballantyne Charlotte NC area range from affordable or luxurious townhomes to sprawling mansions situated right on the golf course. The Ballantyne area is pristine, clean and upscale.
