If you’re looking for something else to do though, don’t despair, there’s plenty to do in the area this weekend. You’ll be enjoying a great Carolina cookouts, the opening of the local pool or you just may kick back and enjoy this three-day holiday weekend to kick off the summer.

2012 Food Lion Speed Street
This annual event began last night and runs through May 26 in the streets of Uptown. Speed Street 600 Festival features appearances, autograph sessions and demonstrations from some of NASCAR’s most popular drivers and pit crews. You’ll enjoy great live entertainment and hundreds of vendors with food and NASCAR memorabilia and merchandise. This is the next best thing to attending the race! Coca-Cola 600
Witness history in the making as the 53rd annual 600-mile NASCAR race takes place on Sunday, May 27 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Coca-Cola 600 will kick off with a patriotic salute to the U.S. armed forces. On your mark, get set, head to the races!
U.S. National Whitewater Center Memorial Day Celebration
FREE music and fireworks at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Featuring Chasing Edison, The Black Lillies and Otis Taylor. A fireworks show over the water follows the concert. For more information, visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center website here.

Go the Extra Mile Patriot Festival 5K+ Run/Walk
What a great way to honor our veterans and armed forces! Run in the Go the Extra Mile Patriot Festival 5K+ Run/Walk. Following the race, Symphony Park will be alive with festivities for everyone.
