Lake Norman was created in 1963 when Duke Power Company dammed the Catawba River to fuel its hydroelectric power plants. Charlotte residents have observed a developmental explosion of luxury and middle-class homes in four historic towns – Huntersville, Davidson (home of Davidson College), Mooresville, and Cornelius–surrounding Lake Norman over the past two decades.
With approximately 520 acres of shoreline, spanning four counties: Mecklenburg, Iredell, Catawba and Lincoln counties, Lake Norman is a bustling lake community with a small-town feel. Lake Norman is considered the larger of the two major lakes that attract Charlotte metro area homebuyers: Lakes Norman and Wylie (located 13 miles south of Charlotte). Lake Norman offers so much–a multitude of waterfront restaurants, upscale retail shops and multi-million dollar homes.
