At the intersection of Providence Road (Hwy 16) and NC Highway 51, the Arboretum covers the four intersecting corners. The Arboretum houses a large shopping center on one corner which was built in the 1980’s and features great restaurants, movie theaters, a grocery store, coffee shops, book stores, fast food restaurants and home furnishing stores. The shopping center is the center of a residential community that has also become a center for service-oriented businesses including medical offices, banks and insurance companies. One corner of the intersection is a luxury apartment complex, one, a medical complex and the other a mixed business area with banking, dentists, restaurants, spa and fitness center.
Many of the local communities, which were built around the shopping center in the mid 1980’s and 2000’s are prime Charlotte real estate and highly sought after for those relocating to Charlotte NC. Homes in the Arboretum range from 1980’s style cedar shake residences in golf and swim communities, like Raintree Country Club, Providence Plantation, Berkeley, Hembstead and Candlewyck, to newer townhomes, transitional and traditional homes in communities like Beverly Crest, The Magnolias, Hampton Oaks, Stonecroft and Providence Springs. The area offers easy access to HWY 51, Providence Road, HWY 74 and I-485.
The Arboretum is about a 30-minute commute to Uptown Charlotte in rush hour traffic, but only about 20 minutes in non-rush hour traffic.
