Alexander County North Carolina | Taylorsville Homes for Sale
Spending some high school and college years in neighboring Catawba County, I grew to love the landscape and the wonderful small town feel of Taylorsville, the county seat of Alexander County North Carolina. Rolling hills and winding roads paved the way to some of the most beautiful countryside in North Carolina. Alexander County is bordered on the south by the Catawba River (Lake Hickory) and on the north by the Brushy Mountains.
Established in 1847, the year of the first sale of land in the county seat (Taylorsville). When the Civil War began, Alexander County was a very young 14 years old. Alexander County is named in honor of the Alexander family who were prominent leaders in Colonial North Carolina. Taylorsville’s namesake is shared by John Louis Taylor, Carolina agriculturist and political philosopher, or General Zachary Taylor, the 12th president of the United States, both of which have been claimed as the true namesake.
Taylorsville is only 30 minutes from the Hickory Regional Airport and 20 minutes from the Statesville Airport. The Alexander Railroad Company remains an active short line rail system operating between Taylorsville and Statesville, connecting with Norfolk Southern. Within Alexander County’s 263 square miles, just over 33,000 reside in the quaint area which is also home to Lowe’s (home improvement) Stores.
